Center for Networked Intimacy

About

Center for Networked Intimacy is dedicated to researching the development and maintenance of relationships in the digital era. Both romantic and platonic relationships have suffered due to the effects of social media on our already scattered brains; aside from not being able to focus on the people we’re physically with, the relationships we develop through social networks often don’t feel genuine because of their lack of physicality. The artificial nature of relationships formed with the help of technology has been becoming increasingly apparent since the invention of social networks, and the feelings of alienation and loneliness only escalated during the Covid-19 pandemic which fostered an environment that promoted online connection.

The Center currently hosts workshops as a way to encourage conversations around the mutations of relationships with the means of social networks and technology. It is led by the artist Dasha Ilina.
